New Arena Tournament System Kicks In - MMORPG.com

The World of Warcraft community site has been updated with a detailed post about the new competitive arena tournament system. In addition, the first North American Qualifier Cup will be kicking off on April 8th.

With the new system, teams of three or four can sign up and participate on live realms in double-elimination, best of five action. During 3v3 Tournament Mode, teams' gear is normalized and all artifacts are maxxed.

All About Prize Pools

  • 1st place > $3,000, 160 points
  • 2nd place > $1,500, 80 points
  • 3rd place > $1,000, 36 points
  • 4th place > $500, 20 points
  • 5th and 6th places > 12 points each

The point system, according to Blizzard, allows for a more even spread of tournament play throughout the entire season as well as the implementation of new rules that are more flexible than before. Teams able to alter composition with one roster swap available for free, though any subsequent changes will cost a team half of their accumulated points.

Sign ups have opened and will remain so until April 3rd when teams will be seeded according to their end-of-season rank. The open tournament will take place April 6-7.

Lastly, Blizzard will be leveraging player-run tournaments as part of the Arena World Championships:

We would love to see more of these! The more community involvement the better and there are some seriously solid reasons for doing it. Community-run tournaments directly impact which teams end up in the Arena World Championships, as all approved community-run events award points. If you’re even remotely interested, here’s what you should do: read the guide, fill out the application form and send it to us. If you have any questions about running your own event, get in touch. We’re here to help and want you to create as many buzzing community events as it’s possible to have.
