Amazon Leaks New Tie-In Novel, Red-Shirt Guy Ponders Playable Sub-Races

Amazon Leaks New Tie-In Novel, Red-Shirt Guy Ponders Playable Sub-Races - World of Warcraft - has leaked a new World of Warcraft tie-in novel called "Shadows of Argus: Before the Storm". According to the brief description, the book...tells the story of what awaits the heroes of the Horde and the Alliance in the wake of their struggle against the demonic Burning Legion". Christie Golden, author of the book, has confirmed that this is indeed legit and that the book will be coming out on May 15, 2018 and is currently available for preorder.

In other WoW news, and certainly unexpected on a quiet Sunday, Ian "Red Shirt Guy" Bates, has penned a speculative look at possible playable subraces that may be coming in the next expansion. By utilizing datamined strings of code, has has concluded that there are possibly as many as four playable races will include:

  • Nightborne (sub race of Blood Elves)
  • Highmountain Tauren (Tauren)
  • Void Elf (Night Elf)
  • Lightforged Draenei (Draenei)

There are several compelling reasons why he believes this, though the main reason behind it is due to the background on the character select screen. For instance, the Nightborne have coding that indicates "Silvermoon" on character select, hence the thought that they will be a sub-race of the Bloodelves.

KayRule had looked through the “chrraces” folder (WH edit: file), which contains data for all races, playable and NPC alike, that can equip armor. At the very bottom of the list were four new entries: Nightborne, Hightmountain Tauren, Lightforged Draenei, and “Void Elf.” Stranger still was their data for “CreateScreenFile” and “SelectScreenFile.” This information is used to indicate what the background shows up on the character creation screen. Non player races that can equip gear, like fel orcs, naga, vrykul, and forest trolls, always have entries of “0” for those fields as they are not playable and would never appear on the character creation screen. Not only do the four new entries have values for what background should show up during character creation, they’re the same entries as certain other races.

Obviously a lot of excitement has cropped up around this speculative thinking, however, the background on character select seems a bit thin. Obviously, with Blizzcon literally just around the corner, we should know more in a couple of weeks one way or the other.

Others believe that "sub-race" may be just a cosmetic by offering additional character creation options when making a character from the start.

Would you play any of the above? Is there a race you'd rather see as a sub-race? Let us know!
