The 8th Annual Running of the Gnomes taking part in World of Warcraft has been detailed on the event's official site. The run is set to take place on October 14th at 4:00 pm Pacific / 7:00 pm Eastern on the Scarlet Crusade - US realm. Anyone wishing to participate logs in with a new level 1 Gnome and requests an invite to one of several guilds taking part in the event. Why is this such a special event? Participants are raising funds for breast cancer research.
Proceeds will go to the Cleveland Clinic that is hot on the trail of a drug that could potentially end breast cancer forever. The Tuohy Vaccine is currently in early stages of human trials, a promising sign.
October is breast cancer awareness month. We understand we’re sugar coating something devastating for people with cute gnomes to open up a conversation, but for a good reason. Everyone’s been affected by cancer of some form. Plus, we really realize that breast cancer isn’t just a woman’s issue. It affects our moms, our sisters, but also our dads, our brothers, our friends, guildies, coworkers, and many other people in our lives. It’s affected people that we really love in our community.
Last year's event had nearly 3,000 Gnomes taking part and raised $5,500. This year, the starting goal for the event is $4,000 with organizers hoping to raise more.
