Alpha Keys Headed Your Way, Pardner, for Tomorrow's Launch

Alpha Keys Headed Your Way, Pardner, for Tomorrow's Launch -

If you've backed Wild West Online at a level that will allow alpha access, start checking your inbox as the keys will be coming today. The alpha event is set to kick off on Friday, September 15th. To provide players with a bit of perspective about what this alpha test means, the WWO team has posted an update on its Facebook page.

Other game devs sometimes use "Alpha Early Access" to publicly release a full-featured product (that still has many bugs and needs more time needed to reach stability). We are instead using the term 'Alpha' in a more traditional way - this is a rough version of what the game will be, but it's not a fully scoped game. We're giving you as a founding member of our community a glimpse at what the game will be, as well a chance to directly influence our development process by giving feedback in response to a true game Alpha. We want to hear your feedback and work with our community to build a game that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

The goal for this first foray into Wild West Online is simple: It is a technical alpha to provide quantitative feedback on server stability, infrastructure and check that in-game systems are working as intended. In addition, players will provide feedback that will help drive design going forward. In short, the focus is on core mechanics that are currently in place and require the most testing opportunities.

Other activities that players will be able to try out include "Gold Rush", where players work to find gold through ground mining, stream mining and so forth. They'll be able to create mining camps and later attempt to move gold to nearby towns. Those playing as bandits can, of course, try to thwart that effort.

As with all alpha experiences, the team warns, this is not a fully featured game and is simply a slice of what the end product will reflect.

You can check the full post on the Wild West Online Facebook page.
