War Thunder has been updated to v1.87 "Locked On" that brings a number of big changes and new content into the game. Players can look forward to Rank VII Ground Forces, advanced Supersonic jets, French Helicopters, new cruisers and new naval / ground battle locations across the Coral Islands. Lastly, Encounter missions will take place on Norway, Mediterranean port and Black Sea port maps.
When v1.87 goes live in War Thunder, players will be able to take the fight to the new "Alaska" map. Alaska is considered a "rural" map, though it does involve taking a small town and its outskirts to complete. "Players will battle for control over a small Alaskan town and its immediate surroundings, fighting on wide city streets between skyscrapers in one engagement and dense evergreen forests in another," the blog reads.
When the 1.85 update launches into War Thunder, players will have new aircraft to play with thanks to the arrival of supersonic jets. These new aircraft come along at Rank VI with air-to-air guided missiles, a totally new type of armament in the game".
Gaijin Entertainment has announced that Italian military forces will be recruited into War Thunder with the v1.85 update currently slated for deployment in December. This includes "dozens of Italian ground vehicles" that will help reinforce the Italian Air Force that is already present in the game.
It's the sixth anniversary of Gaijin Entertainment's War Thunder. To celebrate, all players that score five wins in the Naval Battles mode will receive the Soviet Ya-5m. Anyone participating in just a single battle of any type will also earn the 6 Years of War Thunder decal. These items can be earned from today through November 6th.
War Thunder players can rumble into game to check out a series of Halloween events including the Aircraft event: Witch Hunt and the Ground event: Tank race on the dark path. Each yields emblems and other goodies.
War Thunder is now officially launched as a free-to-play XBox One title. In addition, players can now check into the game to see the new features added with the Masters of the Sea update. Naval Forces are now open to all players, complete with over 80 vessels representing three nations. In addition, helicopters bring a new dynamic to the game.
When the v1.81 update hits War Thunder, players will be able to zoom through the skies in combat helicopters. This first bunch of aircraft will be themed around the Korean War and the Cold War periods of history, with both American and Soviet helicopters being represented. Other nations' helicopters will be introduced "later".
