[Update 7/23/21 2:21p CT] Made an addition to note XDefiant is also releasing on Stadia. Original article below.
Yesterday, Ubisoft announced XDefiant, their take on free to play multiplayer shooter based on their Tom Clancy IP. The first test is set for August, and here’s how you can sign up.
XDefiant is being developed by Ubisoft San Francisco and is described as a F2P, fast-paced arena shooter. As is expected for such shooters, expect loadout customizations, factions, and more.
You’ll be able to select your faction, traits, abilities, and ultras. Additionally, you’ll be able to customize your primary and secondary weapons, in addition to attachments, as you create your loadout. It sounds like this loadout can be modified in the field during the heat of battle as well.
XDefiant will feature a 6v6 arena gameplay with several alternative modes like Domination and Escort. Factions include The Echelon from Splinter Cell, The Wolves from Ghost Recon, the Cleaners from The Division, and the Outcasts from The Division.
Basically, from the live stream above, it looks like Ubisoft’s take on Call of Duty. While XDefiant is currently set for release on PC, Stadia, Luna, Ubisoft Connect, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, it looks like the closed test is set for PC-only for now on August 5. Ubisoft assures there will be more tests in the future, and you can register here.
Keep in mind, you can only register for one platform. Additionally, it looks like registered players who are invited to the test can invite up to five of their Ubisoft Connect friends as well.
