Wargaming's F2P Mech Hero Shooter, Steel Hunters, Gets An Early Access Date Of April 2nd

Wargaming's upcoming mech hero shooter, Steel Hunters, has announced its early access date, coming to PC on April 2nd.

Steel Hunters marks the first major new IP from the World of Tanks maker in years, bringing over the top mech combat to players in the studio's latest free-to-play offering. As I wrote back in December, Steel Hunters aims to blend battle royale and extraction gameplay in the new shooter, bringing what Wargaming calls an "intense mech power fantasy" to players.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players take the role of Hunters (the aforementioned mechs), each with their own unique set of skills and roles in a fight, which ecourages players to sync up and work together to accomplish their task.

This is only the beginning for Steel Hunters, as Wargaming states that the development of this title is guided by a "player-first" mentality, and hopes to use the early access period to help shape Steel Hunters into a game that the community wants to play for years to come.

"We want to build STEEL HUNTERS with you," Wargaming states in the announcement post on their Steam page. "By starting in Early Access we can refine and expand the game together ensuring every shot fired and every Hunter unleashed is finely tuned. And don't worry—this won't be a drawn-out process. Our goal is to move quickly to a full release once your feedback has helped us polish the core experience."

Given that it's free-to-play, it should garner a lot of attention, especially from those of us who have been big mech fans ever since the MechWarrior and EarthSiege days of the 90s.
