[UPDATE] Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Coming 2021

[Update #2: 1:01pm PT] SEGA's PR reached back out regarding our inquiry regarding the Japanese trailer stating New Genesis is coming to PlayStation 4 and Switch in addition to Windows 10 PC. In response to our inquiry regarding a possible Western release on those platforms, the team offerred the following statement:

"Thank you for your interest in "Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis"! We understand your excitement for this announcement, but for the time being, please check our official website and social media channels for updates. More news will be coming soon! We appreciate your support."

[Update 10:25am PT]The official Japanese Twitter for Phantasy Star Online 2 has also tweeted out a version of the trailer, but this shows at the end a release for not just Windows, but PS4 and Switch. Currently, here in the West PSO2 is only available on Windows 10 PC and Xbox. We've reached out to SEGA's PR for clarification and as to whether or not Sony and Nintendo fans will see this in the West any time soon. We'll update this story with their response should they choose to do so.

Original Story:

During the Xbox Game Showcase today, SEGA showed off a trailer of the upcoming expansion for Phantasy Star Online 2, titled New Genesis.

The trailer itself is rather fast paced, showing off what looks like a new, expansive world, with the gameplay in the trailer itself looking like it's more open than the linear corridors of PSO2's current world. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online, New Gensis brings with it updates to the graphics engine of the aging MMO, according to the YouTube listing - and the visuals shown off in the teaser trailer definitely do look crisp and more on par with what we expect to see in more modern MMOs today.

New Genesis is launching in 2021 on Xbox One, Series X and Windows 10., releasing it on a "global scale, including Japan and North America." Be sure to check out our review of the Free-to-play MMORPG as well.
