In a video interview with Todd Howard, details were released about Starfield, Bethesda’s new space-faring IP. The Interview is long and comprehensive, but it has provided quite a bit of information that was broken down on a recent reddit post.
From what we can glean from the conversation, both Starfield and the next iteration of The Elder Scrolls series, TES: VI will be procedurally generated, despite the fact that the procedural generation will not be randomly generated. This points to all games being similar, and not randomized. They also talked about the Creation Engine, and how the changes will manifest in everything from animation to AI.
Starfield will also be a single-player only game, keeping with the similar theme to the previous single player Elder Scrolls games. According to Howard, Starfield is going to be huge, as they currently are running a staff nearly 5 times larger than the team that created Skyrim. Will Starfield be worth the 25 years’ wait for this brand-new IP from Bethesda? We may have at least a year or more before we find out, but at this time a 2021 release is expected.
