Do you like World of Warcraft? Do you like board games? Would you like a board game based on World of Warcraft? Well you might be interested in the recently announced World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - A Pandemic System Board Game.
Long name aside, Wrath of the Lich King board game intends to combine the classic co-operative Pandemic gameplay system within the World of Warcraft universe. It’s set to relase this Fall priced at $59.99.
In the board game, you’ll be tasked with fighting your way through the Scourge as you reach The Lich King’s frozen throne. Features include the Pandemic system which should be familiar with respect to mechanics and gameplay.
The game board itself, said to be extra large, will feature forts, temples, battlegrounds and iconic locations native to Azeroth. You’ll encounter and play as some pretty iconic World of Warcraft characters with detailed and sculpted plastic figures. These characters include Thrall, Varian Wrynn, and of course, Sylvanas Windrunner.
Wrath of the Lich King will feature quests which is actually a brand-new mechanic to Pandemic where you’ll trek across Northrend to battle monstrous entities, destroy evil relics, and more. Additionally, Hero Cards will give you an edge in the form of equipment for more attack power during combat, and special mounts. These mounts will let you move more spaces during your turn. You’ll also be able to utilize healing potions to restore hit points, and much more.
Justin Kemppainen, Director of Brand Management at Z-Man Games, noted in the press release,
“Wrath of the Lich King is our first time taking the Pandemic game system into beloved fictional settings like Azeroth. It literally opens up a whole new world of possibility. There’s no greater threat to Azeroth than the Scourge. The game really illustrates that by mixing the thrilling co-operative gameplay Pandemic fans know and love with World of Warcraft. We’re confident new and existing players of both franchises will love it!”
