Since Mike Laidlaw left BioWare last year, we've wondered what he's been up to -- and now we know! He has been a creative consultant with Spanish development studio, Gato. In this new video, Laidlaw introduces The Waylanders, a new RPG that is heavily inspired by games including Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins. It features Celtic mythology and a time-traveling protagonist who spends time with party members in the Middle Ages and a separate Celtic war party.
The game is, according to Laidlaw, in its more conceptual stage of development with no timeline for release or testing opportunities.
Other features include:
- Brigantia along the northern coastline of Spain
- the hero faces dangers in both Brigantia and the Middle Ages
- the hero time travels, but party members do not, so there are two distinct parties of companions
- real time combat with tactical pause capabilities
