Smite 2’s final alpha weekend has just completed. The fourth alpha weekend kicked off on July 18 as Hi-rez Studios adds new Gods Ares and Susano to the roster. The alpha also features the new game mode Arena and will give players their last chance to sample the game before it enters its ongoing Closed Alpha phase on August 27.
The new Arena mode promises “intense and chaotic” 5v5 fights and returns from the original SMITE with a variety of improvements. It’s a simple and straightforward deathmatch mode for players who just want to get in there and slug it out. If it’s anything like the original game’s Arena mode, matches should be a quick 15 minutes in and out, where players deduct tickets from the enemy team’s total by killing enemy players and minions. The first team to have their tickets reduced to zero loses.
Ares, the Greek god of war and Susano the mythological Japanese storm god have both joined the roster this weekend. Ares can slow and stun enemies with his chains, offering his team substantial crowd control options. On the flip side of this is the speedy Susano, whose burst damage potential should instill fear into his enemies.
Three new cross-gen skins are also available now, including Mr. Squish Ymir, Goth Gourmet the Morrigan, and Cosmic Executioner Thanatos.
