Grinding Gear Games is bringing Path of Exile 2 to the PlayStation 5 along with the ability to play together with a friend or loved one via couch co-op. The news was revealed at Sony’s latest State of Play this week via a brand new trailer.
Path of Exile 2 was originally developed as an expansion for Path of Exile 1, but will now be a standalone title with its own game balance, systems, and post-launch content. Purchases made in either game will be shared across both PoE1 and PoE2, however.
The game will sport a new engine allowing for improved visuals and physics. There will be 12 playable character classes, pair each for every combination of Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. The 12 classes also have three Ascendancy specializations, totaling 36 Ascendancy classes for players to choose from and build around.
PC players will be able to use traditional mouse controls or a new WASD control scheme developed for the game. Cross play and cross progression between PC and consoles are planned, too.
Path of Exile 2 will release in late 2024. Grinding Gear Games also announced this week that early access on PlayStation 5 would be available ‘later this year.’
