New Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred Trailer Gives Us Our First Look at Spiritborn Gameplay

Diablo 4 is getting its first new class since its launch in June 2023 with the Spiritborn, a glaive wielding warrior able to choose from a number of different spirit guardians that change how the class plays. The Spiritborn class will arrive with the launch of D4’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred.

Blizzard revealed the class with the expansion’s announcement back in June, but earlier this week we finally got a look at the Spiritborn’s gameplay.

The Spiritborn will enlist the aid of its spirit guadian in combat and the player can choose from the gorilla, jaguar, centipede, and eagle spirits to summon. Blizzard took its inspiration from the jungles of Nahantu when designing the class and also claims that the Spiritborn will be the fastest class in the entire game.

Each spirit guardian offers the player different gameplay options:

  • Jaguar places an emphasis on movement, area of effect damage, and swift attacks
  • Gorilla gives players additional options for damage reduction, reflection, and defense
  • Eagle emphasizes precision and speed and is best suited for players who want to fight from range
  • And lastly, Centipede offers options for crowd control, life steal, and inflicting enemies with poison damage

Spiritborn players can choose to focus on a single spirit or combine elements of the four to create their own builds.

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is available now for pre-order and will launch on October 8.
