In a new video released this week, Arrowhead Game Studios details the Galactic War, a marquee feature of its upcoming co-op sci-fi shooter, Helldivers 2.
Everyone playing Helldivers 2 will be taking part in a global campaign called The Galactic War where players will combine their efforts to push back and defeat the Terminants, who were previously confined to their planets, from taking over the galaxy. The developers also touched on a new threat, the Automatons, which will pose an additional challenge to players.
In the game, Helldivers are in command of their own Super Destroyer starship and this is where players will choose the missions they wish to undertake via the Galactic War map. The map will detail which worlds are under Super Earth control, which have been infested by the enemy, and where the current front of the war is located.
Players will have agency in which missions to play, but High Command will issue priorities in the form of Major and Personal orders. Major orders are essentially community-wide events that players can contribute to. Personal orders are smaller stake orders that a player can complete themselves or with their squad. The devs will also roll out bonuses or handicaps, such as making the Eagle 500kg bomb temporarily available to all Helldivers or reducing the number of magazines Helldivers deploy with by 50%, to spice things up.
