Greece Unveiled as New Antiquity Age Civ on Civilization 7's First Developer Livestream

Firaxis held its first developer livestream for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII this week, giving players a deeper look into gameplay in the game’s first Age, the Antiquity Age.

Players also got their first look at how the game will handle Age transitions, with a transition between the Antiquity and Exploration Ages demoed. Greece was also announced as a new Antiquity Age Civ.

Some of the highlights from the livestream include:

  • The first unit built in Antiquity (either a Scout or Warrior) will now be built in a single turn
  • Some terrain types such as wetlands and forests will end movement, though there are units who are able to bypass this
  • Tech research grants players new yields for existing improvements instead of new tile improvements
  • Great People are unique to each Civ
  • Players use the Legacy Points accrued throughout an Age to spend on special perks when transitioning into the next Age

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will release on February 11, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Players who pre order the Deluxe and Founders Editions of the game will gain five days of early access beginning on February 6, 2025.
