Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, a first-person expansion to the hit space sim, has just been announced earlier today via an announcement on their forums with an accompanying trailer.
The anouncement calls Odyssey the "Next Era" in the Elite Dangerous universe, and will allow players to disembark from their ships to be the first to walk unexplored worlds. From the presser:
"Experience intense first-person combat, kit out your character with an array of weapons and gear, and coordinate with teammates to master a multi-layered, deep, tactical environment where Commanders, SRVs and Starships converge. From now until launch, we'll be sharing more information, developer diaries and trailers as we get ready to embark on this exciting new adventure! "
Players will be able to obtain new tech, discover outposts and settlements, take on contracts, assemble crews, gather in social hubs, form alliances, and acquire upgrades to weapons and gear. Combat will be expanded to incorporate elements of first-person shooters, such as equipping different arrays of weapons and gear and being able to co-ordinate with teammates to involve more strategy and depth.
The expansion is available to wishlist on steam right now and if you're already enjoying Elite Dangerous, then you can look forward to the Fleet Carriers update launching on June 9.
