From the moment that Marvel’s Avengers released, fans of the Marvel Universe wanted just a few things. More characters, more stories, and end game! In the latest reveal during Square Enix’s E3 2021 presentation, players were introduced to two new content releases headed into Marvel’s Avengers later this year, along with more information about the next big expansion, Marvel’s Avengers: War for Wakanda.
Few specifics were provided during the War for Wakanda presentation, with the main exception revolving around the underlying storyline, as Black Panther battles Ulysses Klaw for Wakanda’s vibranium reserves. As was already teased, Black Panther will be a playable character, but details regarding his abilities have yet to be released.
During the stream, a few new features that were originally posted from the roadmap were also teased. Picking up from where the story left off, Monica Rappaccini, the Scientist Supreme is creating an “all powerful” device to “save the world” and bend reality to her will. Unfortunately, it is much closer to destroying the world than saving it, and the Avengers will be tasked with stopping her. The Cosmic Cube mission is headed to the game later this month.
Later in the summer, Square Enix has teased the upcoming Patrol Mode for Marvel’s Avengers. In the patrol mode, players will be tasked with exploring parts of the world, as they work alongside other players to defeat villains and find caches of hidden gear that will help them grow more powerful, or clues to aid them in stopping an apocalyptic future that they’ve seen first-hand. The Patrol Mode is described as having randomized, replayable boss fights, and exploration-based rewards, so that players can spend their time in these open spaces, finding new rewards, and fighting random bosses, similar to how the Patrol Mode worked in Marvel Heroes Omega. The Patrol Mode is slated for later this summer, but it will release prior to War for Wakanda, which will be available on Xbox One|X|S, PC, and PlayStation 4|5 in August.
