Fawke's revival of cross-media MMO Defiance is slated to launch next month, and the team dropped a teaser video, talking about the MMO, promising fans that it's coming back, 'just as you left it.'
The video certainly does its best to hype potential players up to jump into Defiance when it (re)launches on April 18th. A reel full of landscapes and backgrounds from the MMO play while a narrator talks over it all, bassy tones bringing a "movie trailer narrator vibe" to the whole affair. It's exciting even as someone who never could really get into the original release as much as I had hoped I would to see an older game getting some love from what is, by all accounts, a passionate community.
Fawkes reiterates that their Defiance revival is bringing the MMO back the way players remember it.
"For years, Defiance was more than just a game," the narrator prompts. " It was a world where friendships were made in the heat of battle, where every Arkfall was a challenge, and ever mission a new chapter in a story that never stopped unfolding. But like all great worlds, Defiance eventually faded. The servers went queity, the world paused, and the battle for Earth fell into silence...but not for long.
Now, after years of waiting, Fawkes answered the call. The world of Defiance is returning. It's all coming back, just as you left it."
The free-to-play MMO will see a PC launch next month, and will have long-term content plans based on player activity. The plan is to create new content, according to an FAQ from Fawkes earlier this month, but they will be starting slow to ensure stability and gauge the reaction.
The trailer released this week should do something to help drive interest, especially for those who have longed to jump back into Defiance's take on Earth. Either way, we'll see how things stand next month.
