It's definitely been an interesting week in the MMO world. Here are the top 5 stories of this week in MMORPGs.
We saw Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah abruptly leave BioWare, citing the need to pave the way for the next leadership at the studio as a reason. What this means for BioWare moving forward, especially with Dragon Age 4 looming remains to be fully seen, though we will see Dragon Age at next week's Game Awards as confirmed by Geoff Keighley today on Twitter.
We also sat down with Round 8 Studio's Jason Park to discuss the team's ongoing work on Bless Unleashed on PC. While his team didn't make Bless Online, they certainly have to deal with the fallout and expectations when pushing the next iteration of the IP to the PC, so we talk about dealing with that, as well as lessons from the console releases.
If you were interested in Immortals Fenyx Rising, we've got our review ready for you. While we liked the combat, we felt it lacked depth and the RPG didn't do enough different than other Ubisoft IPs, but it's definitely worth a try, even if it's to give you something while we wait for Cyberpunk 2077, which is almost assuredly coming out next week.
The big news of the week has to obviously be the acquisition of Daybreak Game Company by EG7 for $300 million USD. The acquisition, which took place at the start of this month, sees 100% of the shares in DGC, as well as gave us a treasure trove of information, such as active monthly users, retention rates and more with their 6 active games.
