4.2 Patch Overview with Twitch’s Shamanom

Final Fantasy XIV (online) didn’t have the greatest start to life when it was released in 2010. Players were happy with lag, server issues, basic controls and large lags in the content. It took several years before Square Enix revamped and put the game back on track. But was it too late?

When I played beta tested and played this game on release (30 day free trial), I successfully played the game for about 2 days before the issues consumed be and I went back to EverQuest and left any hope of a franchise I loved (Final Fantasy) to fix the broken game that came out. I played Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 and the outstanding cut scenes, immersive game play and great story made me jump at the opportunity to play a MMORPG version. I vowed never to pick up the game gain. A Realm that was broken, became reborn then accessed to Heaven and is now in a storm of blood. About a month ago my roommate began their adventure into Eorzea on the Playstation 4 and I began to watch the game play. For some odd reason my drive to re-enter the game I swore off 8 years prior began to catch my attention again. The play was smoother, the main story was solid and felt complete and the control system actually looked good. After about a week of watching game play, I dusted off my collector’s edition box and reinstalled. After finding out I no longer had my authenticator, I purchased the bundle from Steam and began my own adventure with a fresh outlook on the game. I fell in love with the World, the players, the story and the overall community and game play that Final Fantasy XIV has evolved to. There are many servers, including new ones which are growing on a daily basis. Now the real question, was the game stagnant or was it still being developed and changing for the better? On Jan 29th 2018 I had my answer. Patch 4.2 was a HUGE content patch which extended the main story, adjusted classes, revamped player housing, PVP and adding an entire new progression set of dungeons and raids.  It was a beautiful thing to see and though I’m not of the level to take part in the new high end content, even the new players can see the outstanding changes and effects this patch has had on the game. Needless to say, I’m staying in Eorzea for the near future! I sat down with one of Twitch’s Premiere Final Fantasy streamers, Shamanom and he shared with me his experiences from release to today with the game, and his thoughts on Patch 4.2 along with where he would like to see Square Enix take the game as we move forward!
