Interacting with Bumblebee

What is it like working with a title like Transformers?

Kris Jones:

It is an incredible experience to be working on such an amazing IP. We are all excited to be working with such a fantastic team at Hasbro and that relationship is working really well. A large portion of the team have been fans of the brand since G1 so they are really loving being able to have the creative freedom to do something new with a brand they have such fond memories of. Everyone wants to make something special that will appeal to both long term fans, new fans as well as put our own special Jagex touch on it.


How will players enter the game world? Will they be able to build their own Transformer?

Kris Jones:

Character customization is a big part of Transformers Universe and choosing both the side you fight on and the character you pick and customize is going to be crucial to your gaming experience. We are putting a lot of effort to making sure there is a real difference between fighting for the autobots or decepticons. They are inherently very different sides and character creation and customization is going to play a big part in that.

How will the players interact with the famous characters from the series?

Kris Jones:

Players are definitely going to have interactions with Key characters from the brand. We are looking to accommodate icons such as Optimus and Megatron as well as re-imagining old fan favorites such as Prowl and Barricade.

Will there be PvP between the factions? How do players get involved?

Kris Jones:

As soon as we are able to be clearer on how this function of the game will work we will be sure to let you know.

Transformers spans almost 30 years now. What is your target audience for the game?

Kris Jones:

The game is a 13+ game aimed at all Transformers fans and gamers from all walks of life. The wonderful thing about Transformers is that it has remained popular for so long because it has vehicles that transform into giant robots combined with some fantastic characters that just resonates with a massive amount of people. At Botcon we realized that Transformers really does appeal to a massively wide audience. Plus our game engine will allow accessibility for a huge demographic of gamer, from social and casual gamers, to more veteran and competitive gamers.

Is the story line set in the normal universe for Transformers? Or will we see some alternate time line?

Kris Jones:

It depends on how you mean ‘normal universe’. We are in the prime universe along with several other products from Hasbro including the book Exodus, the War for Cybertron games and the Prime cartoon. We have relative freedom to explore our own storylines within the confines of Hasbro’s overall goals for their Prime brand and have dedicated writers hired to that end. Where the story will be set is still under wraps.

What are your plans for launch? We know it is far off, but can you give us any ideas.

Kris Jones:

At this time we cannot say too much, but rest assured that if you imagine what phenomenal things a 30ft Transformer can do, you’ll be seeing that, and more.
