Austin Game Conference Blog: The Last Day for the Newbie

Blog Entry #3 by Aaron Roxby

Well, it is all over. I can no longer say that I have never covered a video game conference. AGC was a convention that I would describe as “nutritious”. As was previously stated, it is sort of like the Bizzarro world E3. The booths were low key, it was relatively quiet and people were there to work and get work, not to play. Not too much anyway. The panels I attended were almost all excellent and I found myself learning quite a bit.

On the last day, I met with folks from Uru Online, Pirates of the Burning Sea and Galaxy Life. All three looked are trying to offer that rarest of things in the MMO industry. Something new. Expect in depth coverage of those games soon.

While the show was chock full of interesting industry discussing, it was a bit light on new information about up-coming games. I was able to score some good morsels, but unfortunately no one leaned in to me and said “Off the record… The new Bioware MMO is…” or took me to a back room and showed me a playable version of DC Universe, like I was secretly hoping.

I met a lot of new people. They were mostly extremely good folks. It was nice seeing my fellow mmorpg.com writers face to face. The publicists and devs that I interviewed were exceedingly friendly, however I have a sneaky suspicion that my press badge had more to do with that than my sparkling personality. Oh and I beat Raph Koster in an arm wrestling match. Actually that is not true. I suppose there is always next year.
