Earlier today homeLAN interviewed Sims Online designer Chris Trottier about what's going to be the best about this extrordinary MMORPG. Here's a peice of the action:

HomeLAN - How did the idea to expand The Sims to a massively multiplayer enviroment come about?

Chris Trottier - It was a no-brainer. The minute people started playing the Sims, they wished they could have their friends come over to the houses they were building. Once you’ve put a lot of work into developing a property, that’s a real urge to want to show it off. Meanwhile, we were witnessing this huge outpouring of creativity on the house and story exchange we hosted on the website. It struck us that players had a great capacity to entertain each other if we could get them the forum to do it in.

Also, Sim to Sim interactions were one of the most fun and challenging things in The Sims. But the AI we put in for other Sims could only begin to scratch the surface of real human behavior which can be unbelievably complex and contradictory. Having real humans driving the other Sims makes for a much richer experience.
