The Exiled Replaces Das Tal Moniker

The Exiled Replaces Das Tal Moniker -

Fairytale Distillery has announced that Das Tal is no longer Das Tal. Now known as The Exiled, the game features a brand new, rebranded trailer and will be taking part in Gamescom all this week. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think of the name change!

Why did we change the name? Why now?

“Das Tal” was meant to be a working title from the very beginning. Over the years we thought about changing the name many times but never really had the mental bandwidth for it during development. With launch getting closer and closer we felt that we finally had to make the jump into cold water and come up with a name that fits the game we are making.

There are many reasons for why we prefer The Exiled over Das Tal. Here are the two main ones:

1.) The Exiled puts the focus of the name on what is really important: The people of the valley. When playing our game you are one of the exiled. We care about your experience while playing our “social sandbox”. The fact that you are in a valley (that is what “Das Tal” means in German) is secondary to that.

2.) It paints a picture in your head in a way that “Das Tal” never could. While having a German name was never a problem for us - many players actually found it pretty cool - for most people those two syllables were just a random jumble of letters. Hard to remember and hard to care about.

So yeah: I hope you like the new name as much as I do.

Long live The Exiled.
