XBox One and PlayStation 4 users who want to see what The Crew is all about can now take advantage of a special 2-hour free trial of the game, according to a post on the game's official site.

The Crew team has sent word that the Vintage Car Update has arrived with several components free for all players. In addition the Vintage Car Pack DLC has been released that features the Chevrolet Corvette C2, Chevrolet Corvette C3, and Spyker C8 Aileron.

Ubisoft has posted the latest patch notes for The Crew. Of particular note is the addition of a new PvP mode in the form of a ten-player elimination race. Players can also expect to see improvements to cooperative missions and the way cars handle in addition to graphical enhancements to stabilize the framerate in cockpit view.

Ubisoft’s The Crew was always going to either be A.) a resounding dud or B.) a pleasantly fun racing experience. Ubisoft’s The Crew might be a good overall indication of what we can expect from MMOs in the next several years. How you look at that statement could be a good or a bad thing. I spent the better part of last night and this morning delving into the live service of Ivory Tower’s racing MMO. Though I don’t think we’ll need the usual 4-5 weeks to come to a conclusion about The Crew’s performance, because there are only so many different things you can do behind the confines of a car.

Ubisoft has an interesting new post on The Crew blog today that lets players know that reviewers will be able to start posting their thoughts as early as the game goes live in December. That announcement comes with the caveat that those reviewers may be basing their thoughts on early versions or beta versions of the game and that writers may not have seen The Crew in its optimal light.

Ubisoft has sent out a tweet that the console beta test for The Crew will resume on November 6th. Both XBox One and PlayStation 4 owners are invited to sign up on the game's official site.

Ubisoft has announced that The Crew will be delayed to December, about three weeks later than earlier anticipated. The delay is needed, according to Ubi, to give the console beta more time on both PlayStation 4 and XBox One.

The Crew team announced on Twitter that the closed beta version of the game will kick off closed beta testing on September 30th. Supported consoles include both the PlayStation 4 and the XBox One.

Games like Mario Kart, which remained mostly about just getting out there on super fun tracks, and games that took on a more realistic approach and went the way of tons of DLC and unlockables. I’ve mostly found myself playing Mario Kart as my racer of choice, but when Ubisoft unveiled The Crew, I met the announcement with interest. An MMORPG and racing game? In one? How would that work?
