Tech Journal -

The Chronicles of Spellborn official site has been updated with this week's edition of their technical developer journal. This week the topic is scripting boss fights.

Hi, I'm Hessel and I work on the custom scripting that is needed for bosses and encounters. If you get eaten, wiped out or spat upon by a giant reptile in some ancestral setting: think of me, I was definitely thinking of you.

Bosses - naturally - hatch inside the heads of the Gamedesign department, who have to get them out on paper before they start to find their own way out. If the boss's behaviour falls within the normal AI limits, the boss is treated as any other NPC but with a special skilldeck, mesh and or animations. Obviously, Gamedesign wouldn't be Gamedesign if they didn't conceive new bosses and encounters that challenge the very limits of the existing scripts and the engine (and life, the universe and everything).

And that's where we come in.
