The official Tactica Online website carries a new developer journal, this one from their Lead Artist on the topic of squad building.

Squad-Building on a Budget

Hey guys, I'm John Nangle, Lead Artist on Tactica Online and your host for this month's dev diary. As we've started to talk to the public about Tactica Online (TacO for short...shhh, don't tell Luke), we've realized that some of the concepts that set it apart from the pack of online RPGs are also the hardest parts of the game for seasoned players to come to grips with. This month's topic takes a deeper look at one of those elements, squad building.

Unlike most online RPGs, Tactica Online allows you to control a group of characters, rather than a single avatar. It might help to think of yourself as the commander of a squad, rather than as one of the characters. The squads and, more specifically, the skills of squad members are also comparable to a player crafted deck of cards in games such as Magic: The Gathering. The most successful squads are built around a few central skills and combinations of skills, which are determined by the player's plan of attack. This allows for a lot of variety in strategies and makes squad creation a vital part of any player's game plan.

You can check out the full journal on their site.

Remember, make your thoughts heard on our Tactica message boards.
