Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this review.
I've been playing SWTOR now since open Beta load testing, and I have to say I am quite impressed with the game. Now I know there are people out there right now say all sort of interesting things about Bioware and their customer service but I have to be honest my dealing with them have been brilliant... which can't be said for most other MMO's I've played in the past. But like any large business there are always going to be exceptions and mistakes.
Like all starting out MMO’s there has been quite a lot of patching, hot fixes, emergency server maintenance, class balancing tweaks etc. I’d be lying if this hasn’t been annoying as 50/50 of these patches didn’t fix what they said they would or coursed other problem elsewhere in the game.
Now this is very annoying but the game has been officially open now for 5 months it’s still very much in its early days but since patch 1.2 things seem to be setting down. In the instance where Bioware have had the servers down for prolonged periods of time they have given all there subscribers free time to make up for this. However this is a lot better than most other MMO’s I’ve played in the past where I have had to battle with the customer service to get free play for botched server maintenance.
Also I think as we are on the topic of messy lunches I’ve yet to see a single MMO come out without a good amount of patching and tweaking in its first 6 months to a year. SWTOR had virtually no server cues to speak of and the onesd they did have was because of people all choosing the most populated servers to join meaning you did have to cue for 10-15 mins but that was way back in the first month of opening and they fixed that within a few weeks.
As to the game its self well it’s a WoW clone and your blind if you think otherwise. But it’s not a pure WoW clone in the true spirit of Bioware they looked at it and took what worked, what they liked and then made it their own. This MMO has an immersive and detailed personal story line for each class with multiple choice conversations and cut scenes that make this a unique MMO experience as you are able to form and create your own star wars saga.
The story in this game is what you would expect from Bioware huge and immersive. Like there Dragon Age and Mass Effect series of RPG’s you can just scratch the surface of the world and story as you are shown fully voiced cut scenes that keep the narrative fresh and clear in your mind that keeping you hocked to the game and the story as it unfolds biased on your decisions.
If you’re the one to dig a little deeper there is a huge resource of readable martial as you explore and discover new things fleshing this world out like no other MMO I’ve played. Again this is Biowares thing they do it extremely well and they have not let down on that score. For you SW – KOTOR players this carry’s on from where Biowares story left off, set in the same universe 300 years in the future. Old names and face are mentioned and developments of their story explored and expanded.
There are quite a few firsts in this MMO that I believe make for one of the best MMO experiences since WoW and Eve. Both huge names in the MMO world that brought something new and unseen before SWTOR is the next step in MMO experience.
  • It’s fully voiced with cut scenes giving it a very unique a cinematic feel.
  • It allows you to make choses that affect the outcome of your missions as well as the story line as a whole.
  • It has companions – NPC that fight alongside you allowing for greater solo play as well as creating a new level of storytelling as your interactions and decisions effect there view of you and their own story as the game unfolds.
SWTOR is all about storytelling and creating a feeling that you are part of an epic tale set in the Star Wars universe, one that you have control over and can change and shape. As well as doing all the other things other WoW clone MMO’s do. I love this because it’s star wars but to be honest I’d love this game if it wasn’t star wars, and was some other sci-fi based MMO as the features just make this stand out alone in the MMO world; there is just nothing else like it out on the market right now.
That’s why people need to cut it a little slack and just give it some time to bed down and smooth things out there is so much new stuff this game has brought to the MMO table and it plans to offer even more in the future. This is Biowares first MMO, and for that they have to an amazing job and not just that but they have made something unique to the MMO market, and to top it all off it’s set in the Star Wars universe!
All in all I’d recommend this game, yes it still has some teething problems but I dear you to name one MMO that has not…
Thanks for reading.

Star Wars is not everyone’s cup of tea (madness! LOL)

Seriously? you are the only person I have ran into that thinks this way. I believe you have a bias as it is impossible to give this game a 10 from any perspective. SWTOR has been more of a dissapointment than anything else and that is how the majority of the community feel about the game.

You seriously give this game a perfect 10? LMAO. Wow.  I could see maybe a 7 on a very good day but really, the game is average and not nearly as good as it should have been.
