James Ohlen on SWTOR Regrets, EA's Influence on Anthem & Much More

Game Informer has a new "post-mortem" interview with former BioWare developer James Ohlen. You may remember that Ohlen left the studio last month after 22 years to take on other challenges. In the interview, Ohlen touches on a number of hot topics when it comes to any discussion of BioWare: Star Wars: The Old Republic, the influence of EA on game development at BW, and what, if anything, the recent departures of longtime employees means.

James Ohlen Retires from BioWare to 'Take a Break from the Industry'

BioWare's James Ohlen has retired from the company after 22 years. In a brief Twitter post, Ohlen wrote, "After 22 years, I have retired from BioWare. I've loved my time with Anthem, Star Wars, Dragon Age and Dungeons & Dragons. But I need to take a break from the industry and work on something a little smaller and more personal."

Summer Roadmap Includes PvP & QoL Improvements and 'Solo' Content

The Star Wars: The Old Republic site has been updated with a lengthy post to reveal the summer roadmap for the game. Players will see a number of changes in PvP as well as the addition of quality of life improvements. Lastly, and in celebration of the release of "Solo: A Star Wars Story", players will see the Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event return and a number of Cartel Market items added, including a sale of Scoundrel-specific items.

Log in for May the 4th Holiday and Take Home an M4-Y7 Astromech Droid

Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting ready to celebrate the May the 4th (be with you...) holiday by giving its players a nifty M4-Y7 Astromech Droid just for logging in by May 7th. In addition, anyone who is or becomes a Premium Player by May 31st will take home the TF-4 Rampage Speeder. Lastly, from May 1-10, all players will earn Double XP, Double Command XP and Double Starfighter Requisitions.

6.0 Expansion to Focus on Empire vs Republic

During an interview with Star Wars: The Old Republic Central, BioWare's Eric Musco and Charles Boyd confirmed that the 6.0 expansion is in the works and, in fact, already has a release date, though he would not specify when. However, Boyd did mention this: "We're definitely going to be getting back to a Republic vs Empire core storyline getting back to that war, revitalizing it into the core original SWTOR conflict".

Conquest System to be Overhauled in Game Update 5.8

BioWare's Eric Musco has posted a lengthy look at changes coming to the Conquest System in Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Update 5.8. Players will see big alterations via the reworked UI, with separate tabs for Solo and Guild Conquests with clear progression through each. In addition, Conquest objectives have been retooled to provide different types of rewards, as well as a rebalance of point values for all objectives.

Give the Gift of Time During the Share Your Love for SWTOR Event

BioWare is running a special event from now through the end of the month in Star Wars: The Old Republic. During the Share Your Love of SWTOR promotion, players can hand out a special referral link to friends. Those who use the link will be treated to 30-days free game time and players will earn Cartel Coins, Battle Droids and more. Premium players will also receive the Chiss Talon Interceptor Airspeeder and the Force Veteran's Armor set on March 1st.

SWTOR is Alive & Kicking - Updated Roadmap Coming in February

Keith Kanneg has posted a brief note on the Star Wars: The Old Republic forum to let players know that the 2018 Roadmap is a work in progress and that it should appear sometime in mid-February which should provide a peek into the 90-days following its publication. In addition, Kanneg mentions that summer events are planned and that 6.0 is coming too.

#SWTOR6 Celebrates the Game's 6th Anniversary

Star Wars: The Old Republic is turning six years old with presents for players. All that is required is to get to the Republic or Imperial Fleet in order to claim the prizes. In addition, players can move to Coruscant and Dromund Kaas Strongholds for only SIX credits (instead of 5000)!

Prolific Star Wars Novelist Timothy Zahn to Take Part in Live Stream Event on Thursday

Star Wars: The Old Republic devs will be hosting a special Facebook live stream on Thursday, December 7th with author Timothy Zahn. Zahn most recently "contributed to the crafting of the latest storyline in "A Traitor Among the Chiss". In addition, Zahn has authored nearly a dozen Star Wars novels including Star Wars: Thrawn, a Chiss warrior from the Galactic Empire.

A Traitor Among the Chiss Update Launches

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been updated with a new story addition called "A Traitor Among the Chiss". Players will "embark on a daring new story-driven Flashpoint in pursuit of a rogue agent". The action takes place on Copero where the job is to discover the traitor and his plans. Up to four players or a single player with companions can play through the Flashpoint.

'A Host of Utility Changes' Heading Out the Gate on November 28th

Earlier this fall, BioWare wrote in its roadmap about a number of utility changes coming to all Star Wars: The Old Republic classes. In a change from earlier class balance tweaks, the team has decided to "deliver all of them to you at once". In a new post on the SWTOR forums, Eric Musco reveals all of the changes coming to each class.

From now through November 6th, anyone with a Star Wars: The Old Republic account can try out a pair of expansions for free through November 6th. Both Rise of the Hutt Cartel and Shadow of Revan are free to try out by entering a special code on the SWTOR site to unlock them. This provides players the opportunity to raise a character from 1-60 for free.

United Forces to Lay the Groundwork for Big Changes Including Regional Connected Servers

The Star Wars: The Old Republic site has been updated with a long post laying out the development roadmap for the balance of 2017. Included is the first information about big changes coming to multiplayer starting with the deployment of the United Forces Campaign in November. Some components of United Forces, mostly of the quality of life ilk, will be coming in October including an extended maintenance period on October 24th and the full campaign coming on November 8th.
