After the hue and cry over the "pay to win" nature of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot boxes late last year, EA has had to rethink its strategy going forward. In a new blog post on the game's official site, developers lay out the details of the new "progression system" coming on March 21st. Of particular note is the fact that loot boxes will no longer be sold and Star Cards will be earned in-game only.
Unsubstantiated rumors are swirling that EA may lose the exclusive license to make Star Wars games. According to entertainment site, "Cinelinx", multiple sources have reached out to reveal Disney's unhappiness with EA, even going so far as to "higher ups pull[ing] EA to the 'principal's office' to talk about what's going wrong". In addition, these same sources claim that Disney has also reached out to Ubisoft and Activision about developing Star Wars games.

Today is a big day for Star Wars: Battlefront II with the arrival of the free DLC, The Last Jedi Season. The new content is perfectly timed to coincide with this week's cinema release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The DLC will continue the story of the protagonist, Iden Versio, though as a much older character remembering events of the past. In addition, Finn and Phasma join up as unlockable characters.
Iden Versio is the single-player protagonist in Star Wars: Battlefront II. In a new trailer featuring The Last Jedi free DLC content coming within the next week, you'll see Iden as a much older woman on the red planet of Crait. You'll also get a look at new trilogy characters Finn and Phasma.
Beginning today, Star Wars: Battlefront II players will see the first free DLC content themed around Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. Players will be able to choose whether to ally themselves with the New Republic or the First Order and on December 13th take part in a much beefier DLC that will see Captain Phasma and Finn added as well as the Crait Galactic Assault map, the D'Qar Starfighter Assault map and Tallie's A-Wing vehicle added. All tie-in DLC are free.

EA's stocks have taken a huge hit over the course of the last month, losing 8.5% with investors seeing $3.1 billion in stock value erased. This is in contrast to the overall S&P rising 2% and Take-Two going up 5% and Activision-Blizzard stocks rising .7%. Wall Street analysts are attributing the fall to Star Wars Battlefront II and the controversy over loot boxes and progression. Sales of the game over the Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend were weak causing analysts to take note.
