Harvesting as a Means to Create & Craft - Star Trek Online - MMORPG.com

The Star Trek Online site has been updated with a lengthy post that will be of keen interest to those vested in crafting or who want to become expert crafters. Called "Intro to Research & Development", the article begins with a basic examination of the steps required to create items.

The process follows the steps: Gather Materials; Create Components; Final Assembly. Each basic item takes the same amount of time in order to reach completion, though it does increase depending on the complexity of the item  as skill increases.

There are seven R&D schools in which players can specialize. The higher a player progresses in a given school, the better the chance at higher-quality items and more recipes unlocking becomes.

Other topics the article covers include the effect of Duty Officers on crafting and Skill & Progression.

Progress within each School is gained by completing projects from that School. These projects also frequently yield items and equipment which can be used on you, your starships, or your Away Team, or may be sold to other players on the Exchange.
