Playable Borg Under Consideration

In a recent interview with IncGamers, Star Trek Online Lead Designer Al Rivera revealed that the Borg (among other races) are being considered as playable races for the game.

The lore video series continues over at GameSpot with the release of The Future Past: Part 2. The video starts out catching up viewers with the events highlighted in part one, and then fills in the rest of the gaps that lead to the war between the Federation and the Klingon in the year 2409, which is when Star Trek Online will take place.


Cinematic War Trailer

A new Star Trek Online trailer is available for viewing over at GameVideos. The new trailer opens with the history of the establishment of the Federation in order to pursue to the peaceful discovery of new species and worlds, but quickly reminds us that "even those who strive for peace, must be prepared for war," and switches to some high-octane combat footage involving tons of ships, and even Borg cubes, but more importantly, a good dosage of ground combat.

Atari and Cryptic Studios have announced today that the Closed Beta test for Star Trek Online has commenced! Craig Zinkievich, Executive Producer of Star Trek Online, offers some comments on today's announcement: "We're pleased to begin sharing our addition to Star Trek's legendary story with the public, we know fans of Star Trek, and fans of MMOs, will be incredibly impressed by what they see when they play Star Trek Online."

Release Window Set for Q1 2010

Cryptic Studios has confirmed to Videogamer.com that Star Trek Online is still set for "Stardate 2010" but in a window much earlier than many of us expected. Indeed, Star Trek Online will launch sometime in Q1 2010, and Cryptic Studios also confirms that beta is just around the corner.

DevChat Reveals Details on Progression

The transcript for the October 8th DevChat is now available for viewing. Apparently, a bug or something has been going around the Cryptic Studios offices and the developers weren't on hand for the chat but Cryptic Studios' Community Lead Awen and Community Representative Rekhan were there to field questions on ship tiers and player progression.
