The Star Citizen "CitizenCon" event was held over the weekend in Frankfurt, Germany. During the convention, Chris Roberts gave the keynote address that showed off the ArcCorp planet as well as Area 18 player hub. The interesting thing about them is the sheer size -- as big as a planet with cityscapes going on as far as the eye can see.
Chris Robers stated that it's "very Blade Runner-esque" and that "there isn't really a skybox. Everything is real."
All that is in visual range is real from the standpoint that players can reach locations they see without reservation. Nothing is "painted" into the scenery.
Another planet shown is Lorville, a battle-scarred planet over 8 minutes of flying time away (23M miles in game distance) from Area 18.
These locations will not be part of 3.0, however. While many were hoping for a definitive release of 3.0, none was given, though there is still hope for 2017. Once deployed, updates will be provided along a quarterly release schedule.
You can check out the full keynote address (over an hour) and leave us your thoughts in the comments.
