Ship of Heroes Devs Detail Civilians & Cars & Making a City Feel Alive -

The Ship of Heroes site has been updated with a new blog post to show off the most recent works by the team, particularly with regard to NPCs and how the team is invested in providing a "living" city for its players. Besides adding a vibrant NPC population, complete with vehicular travel, developers are also cognizant of keeping a "reasonable FPS for our new MMORPG". The goal is to "strike a good balance between immersion and FPS".

How many NPCs should be active in a given area?  No one wants to play in a ghost town, but each NPC adds a little more strain to running the game.  In the shot below, there are over 100 civilians in the Arch Park, and at any given time, a player can see about 20.  We think this strikes a good balance between immersion and FPS.  As a supporter of SoH, feel free to weigh in with your opinion in the forums on whether this is the right density of civilians.

In addition, the team provided a sneak peek at what they can expect in the near future, including more in-game videos "to give our community more in-depth exposure to Ship of Heroes as it develops than simple text ever can".

Check out the full post on the Ship of Heroes site.
