Community Concerns Include Griefing, Cheating & Content - Rare Responds -

The latest Sea of Thieves developer blog has been published on the official site to let players know that the team is closely monitoring "talking points" that are cropping up frequently in community discussions. Executive Producer Joe Neate has identified several and reveals both short- and long-term solutions the team is pursuing. Unsurprisingly, many of the hottest topics revolve around griefing.

Spawn-Killing and Ship Respawns

  • players are being "made more aware of scuttling" as an option to the die-respawn-die scenario where opponents stay above ships. The team is also looking into moving griefers to "other world instances"
  • ships are now respawning further away from the ship that sunk them

  • players have been actively working to find matchmaking options for a variety of scenarios including mic / no mic, same language, etc. Rare is looking into toggle options on whether crew can be open or invite-only and providing matchmaking on live mic status. In addition, they're considering a filter option by language

  • direct action will be taken against those found participating in "suspicious activity" but the percentage of players engaged this way is "extremely small"

  • We hear and understand that people are keen to understand what our plans are for updating Sea of Thieves, beyond the top experience fixes. We are currently in the midst of adjusting our roadmap based on feedback we have received since launch, with a ton of planning meetings continuing through this week. We plan to release a video next week updating everyone on how we plan to evolve Sea of Thieves moving forward. We totally understand that people want to see this ASAP, but the critical thing here is to have the right plan that allows Sea of Thieves to grow in the right way.
