Epic Games has announced that it has purchased San Diego developer, Psyonix. Psyonix is best known for Rocket League, its popular Unreal Engine game. Rocket League will be making the move to the Epic Games Store later in 2019, though, at least for the time being, it will remain for sale on Steam. Epic has further clarified that it will continue to support the Steam version with DLC, patches and any other content that is released for PC.

Rocket League was developed on the Unreal Engine and has been out in retail release since 2015. It features cross platform gameplay between PC, PlayStation 4, XBox One and Nintendo Switch. Over 10.5 million copies have been sold and over 57M players have taken part at one time or another in its history.

"No, really. What does this mean for Rocket League?"

In the short term, nothing will change at all! We’re still committed to providing Rocket League with frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game for as long as you’ll have us.

In the long-term, we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before. We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.
