UPDATE: $100 Loot Box Removed After Controversy - Rift - MMORPG.com

UPDATE: The Trion Worlds team has a new post on the Rift forum:

The Orphiel's Mount Crate has been removed from the RIFT store - we listened to feedback, met internally to discuss and decided to pull it.

There are a TON of other great things going on for Fae Yule though, and folks seem to be enjoying them. =)

I can't speak for all the game design requests in this thread, other than to say that RIFT Dev is constantly evaluating and reviewing projects. We're all working toward getting things wrapped up before the holiday break (Trion kindly gives us the days off between Christmas and New Year's), so I wouldn't expect a whole lot of new communication until January.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Rift Reddit has been awash with controversy over Trion's recently added $100 loot box that can contain a random premium mount. These special boxes, Orphiel's Mount Crates, are available from now through the end of the month and contain a premium mount that can be traded. There are 42 possible premium mounts inside.

To say that there have been a few...dicey...comments is to understate things. You can judge for yourself by visiting the Rift Reddit thread or by checking out Jim Sterling's take on the issue in the video below.

Of course, it goes without saying that no one has to purchase any loot box for a mount when more than a few are available in game for in-game currency.

Thanks, Shelassa!
