Measuring Up

In the latest Guild Wars 2 column here at MMORPG.com, Managing Editor Jon Wood takes a look at originals and sequels. At times, it seems that the first is better and more fulfilling than the second. Jon wonders whether this pattern will continue with Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Read Jon's GW2 column and then let us know what you think in the comments below.

The Story of the Week

This week, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood chooses for his Story of the Week MMORPG.com's very own Reader's Choice Awards, why we do them the way that we do, and why other methods in the past have proven a little less successful.

Dynamic Content

In MMORPG.com's latest Guild Wars 2 column, Managing Editor Jon Wood takes a look at Dynamic Content. Dynamic content, as Jon suggests, is content that should make the game world feel alive, that the actions players participate in make a difference in the way the world looks and feels. Check out Jon's thoughts and then let us know what you think about dynamic content on the forums.

The Story of the Week

MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood has looked over all the stories that came out this week with a focus on MMOs. While Jon alludes to two others as noteworthy candidates, ultimately he landed upon the sale of stagnant MMO, All Points Bulletin. Check out what Jon has to say and let us know what you think in the forums.

The Story of the Week

MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood has looked over all the stories that came out this week with a focus on MMOs. While none jumped out immediately as a more all-encompassing story that captured the imagination of a host of readers, one certainly caught Jon's attention: Undead Labs' Richard Foge's thought that most of today's MMOs aren't much. Check out Jon's thoughts about that statement and then add a few of your own on the forums.

The Story of the Week

In his latest column for MMORPG.com, Managing Editor Jon Wood picks what he believes is The Story of the Week. It was a tough choice to pick only one out of all of the interesting news this week. Both Vindictus and LEGO Universe opened for business and Tribes Universe was announced. But what trumps them all is the revelation that Cryptic Studios and Atari will be taking Champions Online into the free to play realm. Check out Jon's thoughts and then add some of your own on the forum.

Official Response to "Dungeons" Article

Earlier today, a PC Gamer article was released titled, "Guild Wars 2 will sell you more dungeons" . The title seems to have caused some confusion among some fans and we contacted Guild Wars 2 developer Eric Flannum for some clarification. Here is his response reassuring players that no decisions have been made as of yet and when they are, they will be based on player feedback:

Things SWTOR Isn't

In his latest MMORPG.com column, Managing Editor Jon Wood takes a look at the Internet's perception of Star Wars: The Old Republic. There is a lot of hype, speculation and misinformation floating around the 'Net these days and Jon takes those things and the people who post them to task. Find out which issues Jon has a bone to pick with and then let us know your thoughts on the forums.

Reading Comprehension

In his latest column for MMORPG.com, Managing Editor Jon Wood begins a discussion of reading comprehension with the Net-wide coverage of World of Darkness and the suggestion that permadeath would be included in the game. While the issue was discussed, it was discussed as a fan suggestion, not a developer inclusion in World of Darkness. Is this the first time something like this has happened? Read Jon's thoughts about the Net and the sound bite mentality. Then let us know what you think.

Speculating on World of Darkness

MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood has a few thoughts about recent revelations about World of Darkness. CCP finally shed some new light on the game that they, well, weren't developing during last week's Grand Masquerade. Blogger Jachilli wrote about a panel discussion where players were allowed to make suggestions to the team about what they would and would not like to see in World of Darkness. Jon's article spends time discussing the most interesting. Check it out!

Shortest Lived MMOs: Revisited

Over a year ago, I wrote one of the first ever MMORPG.com lists on the subject of the shortest lived MMOs. In it, we covered the top four titles with the shortest time between release and cancellation. Normally, we don’t resurrect articles but after today’s events, there is a fifth to not only add to the list, but to add to the top of that list: APB.

Realtime Worlds Announces APB Closure

Today, we learned that Realtime Worlds' first foray into the world of MMOs will be closing down. All Points Bulletin, better known in the gaming community as APB, has, according to the game;'s website, "come to a premature end."

EQ II Extended Fan Faire Panel

At last weekend's Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire, MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood sat in on what was probably the most controversial panel during the convention: The panel dealing with the recently announced Everquest II Extended and its free-to-play option. Developers David Georgeson, Rich Waters, Greg Spence and Tony Royce spent time discussing what EQ II Extended is and isn't as well as giving fans time to ask their questions.
