Review in Progress #1 - First Steps in New Britannia

The launch of Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues is a rare and curious event. Heralded as a spiritual successor to the classic Ultima series, and with Richard Garriott as Creative Director, this independently built title is firmly built on some old-school foundations. But does classic charm translate into an MMO worth exploring? In our multi-part review, I’ll be tackling that very question.

Monster Hunter World: Chaos in the Making

After an aeon on handheld consoles, Monster Hunter is making its way back to the big screen in spectacular fashion. With an open beta weekend unleashed, we sent Gareth Harmer to find out more.

Sound BlasterX AE-5 PCIe Gaming Sound Card and DAC: Rock On

Want to step up your game from motherboard audio? Wondering if it’s a worthwhile upgrade? We’re out to answer those questions today with our review of Creative Labs’ Sound BlasterX AE-5 PCIe Gaming Sound Card and DAC. Gareth “Gazimoff” Harper has the answers to your questions.

Total War: ARENA - Throwing the Doors Open

It’s an important week for Total War: ARENA’s closed beta, with Creative Assembly launching an Open Week and inviting all comers to the online 10 vs 10 tactical battlefield. We strategically dispatched Gareth Harmer to the studio’s UK HQ to find out more.

2017 Holiday Gift Guide: Hardware

Like an RGB-encrusted loot box carousel, the holiday season has spun around yet again. But, like a harbinger of anxiety, it also brings the difficult decision on what to get for the gamers in your life, or even what to snag for yourself. Have no fear, however, as we’ve got you covered with our series of gift guides for the 2017 holiday season.

Enhance LED Gaming Mouse Pad: An RGB Slab at Great Value

As a collective, we’re as fussy about our mousemats as any other piece of gaming gear. Flexible cloth or hard plastic. Miniscule patches or gargantuan placemats. Now, there’s another option - RGB backlit. In this review, we take a closer look at this TRON-esque mousing surface

Creative Sound BlasterX Vanguard K08: Surprisingly Capable

Sound Blaster is a name that’s almost legendary in the PC audio space, backed by an extensive range of sound cards, speakers, headsets and amplifiers that stretches back over decades. But how would the firm’s first pro gaming keyboard stack up in the highly competitive peripherals market? As an opening effort, the Vanguard K08 is a surprisingly capable and full-featured choice.

Getting Airborne Again in 2.0

Not every game gets a second chance at success. Then again, Wargaming.net isn’t your average studio, but a developer-turned-publisher managing a growing stable of titles across PC, console, and mobile. When the team behind World of Warplanes decided that the current version wasn’t working out, they knuckled down on a fresh experience that made flight combat more interesting, more accessible, and ultimately more rewarding.

Sparc (PS4) Review - New Balls

We’ve played space fighters and racing games, but how would a virtual reality sport stack up? Gareth Harmer pulls on his sneakers and heads courtside in our Sparc review.

Shooting Stars – Our Destiny 2 (PS4) Review

At its core, Destiny 2 is a game about shooting and looting. Admittedly, Bungie’s latest effort does a superb job at this, giving us the opportunity to shoot a variety of aliens in an incredibly satisfying manner, amongst gorgeous surroundings, and in all manner of ways. It’s enshrouded in a compelling and immersive mythos, with a breadcrumb trail of loot rewards to urge us ever onwards. But is it enough? The time has come to finally weigh in, as this is our Destiny 2 (PS4) review.

Coming to Mobile Platforms Everywhere

After announcing Runescape Mobile earlier this year, Jagex have made good on their promise. At Runefest ‘17, working demos of both Runescape and Old-School Runescape were available to play, with fans even able to use their existing accounts. We went hands on with these early versions to find out more, and interviewed some of the team behind bringing the veteran MMO to your pocket.

Runefest ‘17: A Return to Origins

If Runefest ‘17 could be summed up in a single theme, it would be about getting back to the roots of the veteran MMO. The annual Runescape fan gathering and convention, held at London’s Battersea Evolution, focused less on major updates and more on features that would grow and improve both games. Whether it’s classic Old-school Runescape, or it’s newer and more glamorous sibling, the conveyer belt of future updates certainly looks packed.

Runefest 17: Cosplays & Costumes

Cosplay is a highlight of any fan gathering, and Runescape’s Runefest is no different. Our team hit the convention floor, capturing some of the incredible fan creations and professional costumes on show.

Review in Progress (PS4): Part 3

It’s our third week playing Destiny 2, and endgame has finally arrived. This time around, Gareth Harmer delivers his thoughts on the concluding single-player Campaign and gets stuck into the gear grind.

Review-in-Progress - Part 2

Looking back on this second week in Destiny 2, I’ml struck with two concerns: the story is starting to feel formulaic and the content repetitive. Is the sheen starting to wear off the shiny newness?
