Star Wars: The Old Republic was a massive MMORPG launch back in 2011. The game is often called one of the last great MMOs to come out of that era. It was steeped in Bioware storytelling with huge plotlines to follow. Factions between the Sith and the Republic, along with Light and Dark side Force choices made for your character. Over time, SWTOR continued to see a lot of success. However, rumors circulate that Bioware Austin may be moving on to new projects. Is it time for the republic to end?
At PAX South we got the chance to sit down with REND and go through some of their latest updates. For those who may not know, REND captures the essence of a survival game with strong PvP concepts and crafting. The fantasy world is built on a rich system of archery which creates the shooter environment. The team has been hard at work and pushing to build out new areas along with polishing character skills and gameplay.
At PAX South this past weekend we got a full hands on preview with the new weapon and new boss. There are several additions that have been updated in the game and so during our demo we decided to try out the War Pike. This weapon type brings piercing attacks to the game, which we will discuss later. Of the two new behemoths they were demoing we chose the harder fight against Kharabak. This giant insect is fast and has a bag full of tricks which can really frustrate our heroes.
Vivox remains one of the biggest veterans in online gaming voice and social services. We got the chance to talk with the team and learn about their partnerships with Player Unknown Battlegrounds, Fortnite, and many other top games this year.
H1Z1 is adding in a game narrative for players. We sat down with GM Anthony Castoro and Director of IP and Brand Eric Correll to go over some of the updates in the story as well as how the team is working with fans.
MMOs have always been a ground for creativity. All of the competitive games you see today: SMITE, Overwatch, League of Legends, and so forth have their roots in MMORPGs. This style of game has now become an esport and more investors are getting involved each year. You hear stories of EA shutting down studios over single player games, and begin to ask, are my solo adventures coming to an end?
MapleStory was recently updated with the Cadena content expansion that brought a lot of big changes to the game. We had the chance to speak to the Dennis Bernardo, Production Manager for the MapleStory team.
With high production values and surprising game play the Overwatch League kicked off into high gear last night with their preseason match ups. Some critics have thrown stones at the league, but Blizzard proved them wrong last night with a solid show for fans and hardcore Overwatch players.
In the upcoming Battle for Azeroth Expansion, Island expeditions are going to be one of the highlighted features. This was announced at BlizzCon and really drew me back into playing Warcraft again. Even though it is likely a year away, it still has a ton of potential. Azerite is the prime resource in Battle, and that is what you are hunting for.
Blizzard has announced Word of Warcraft Classic for all of us old timers. The questions came up at Blizzcon of keeping Classic true to its nature but adding in some quality of life changes for the better. Here are a list of ideas which might help all of us down the line.
Heroes of the Storm has come a long way. The game contninues to win over MOBA fans and works well with players who want to find the fun side of the genre. Their Heroes of the Dorm tournaments have gotten lot of attention and continue to push the game into a positive light. Adding to this divine influence are Hanzo and Alexstraza. We spoke with Tony Su and John Deshazer about the upcoming changes to Heroes of the Storm.
At BlizzCon we sat down with Dean Ayala, Game Designer, and Becca Abel to talk about the next big expansion coming to Hearthstone. The game had some of the best announcements at BlizzCon with Kobolds & Catacombs announced as a rogue-like single player experience (and over 100 new cards to boot). Hearthstone remains one of the best card games out there, but changes coming look to bring a lot of the community back to the game who might have taken time off in recent months.
We sat down with Aaron Keller, Assistant Game Director, and Dave Adams, Principle Level Designer on Overwatch to talk about the upcoming new map and the new wizard of yin and yang Moira. The team had some huge announcements at the show and with Blizzard World leading the way.
At Blizzcon we sat down with Ray Cobo, lead producer, and Patrick Magruder to discuss all elements of the Battle for Azeroth and a brief excitement for World of Warcraft Classic. The team has spent a lot of time going back to Warcraft’s history. The Horde and Alliance are back at it and fighting over new zones with Warfronts and Island exploration. We’ll try to go through everything we asked as best we can.
The new expansion continues to impress finally taking up the rally of the Horde. Blizzard had the factions working together a lot in the past few expansions. Battle for Azeroth sets the side apart again and allows factions to explore maps and islands apart and in contention. We started out in the Horde starting area and here is what we learned.
