A New Playable Race in SWTOR?

Due to the voice acting present, there could never be a new race that could not speak Basic. Sorry, Wookiee fans, but despite the fact that Wookiees were playable in Star Wars: Galaxies and the Smuggler gets one as a companion, they'd have to rewire all of the voice acting to accommodate them in SWTOR. Same with folks wanting to play Trandoshans in homage to Qyzen Fess, or those of us crazy souls who think it would be pretty awesome to run around as a Jawa Jedi Knight.

New Roadmap, Adjusted Timeline, PTS Goodies

Last week, Star Wars: the Old Republic's Senior Producer Bruce Maclean published his revised roadmap for the Summer of SWTOR. Couple that with his previously-published Producer Letter announcing the delay of the Galactic Strongholds expansion and the reasons for it, we have an overall message that they believe players would rather see a much bigger up-front expansion rather than trickling new features and updates along the road piecemeal.

Finally! Quality of Life Improvements

Hands up if you've filed a ticket or simply complained about the fact you stomped the final boss in Black Talon or the Esseles flashpoint and just as you were going to jump back to Fleet, the game crashed. Tomorrow, Star Wars: the Old Republic will release Game Update 2.7.1, announcing the start of Ranked Warzone Season 2, Double XP weekend this weekend, and oh my Giradda, they say they're finally fixing that bug.

Strife: Doing Something to Stand Out in a Crowd

In a swiftly-saturating genre, it takes some doing to stand out from the crowd. S2 Games is attempting to do so with Strife, billing it as a second-generation MOBA. At PAX East, I had the chance to sit down with Producer Tim Shannon to discuss the game and how S2 is trying to re-invent this particular wheel.

Boothill Heroes: A Quick Dip into the Wild West

I'll admit it, when I hear about a realtime turn-based RPG, I tend to think in terms of the fantasy RPGs such as the Final Fantasy series or the old NES Dragon Warrior series. Boot Hill Heroes from Experimental Gamer bills itself as a spaghetti western fantasy, and in terms of nailing it on the head, they got it right in one. It has all the classic Western tropes in there, and it plays similarly to other turn-based RPGs out there.

Boston Cantina Tour and Jack Wood Interview

This past Friday, BioWare sent a team from Star Wars: the Old Republic to Boston to meet with players, answer questions, and give out swag. In attendance from Austin were Community Manager Eric Musco, Community Specialist Courtney Woods, Producer Jack Wood, and Development Director Matt Hemby, with a surprise appearance by Lead Writer Charles Boyd and Senior Director of Marketing DebySue Wolfcale.

The Gaffer Speaks - Part 2

Over the weekend at PAX East, we at MMORPG.com managed to snag an interview with one of the busiest people on the show floor, Carbine Studios' head honcho Jeremy Gaffney, aka the Gaffer. Given that a number of WildStar's biggest fans were unable to attend the convention, I thought it would be cool to reach out to them and other fans who were present to gather up some questions for the Gaffer, to truly make it more of a community interview rather than a standard press interview.

The Gaffer Speaks - Part 1

Over the weekend at PAX East, we at MMORPG.com managed to snag an interview with one of the busiest people on the show floor, Carbine Studios' head honcho Jeremy Gaffney, aka the Gaffer. Given that a number of WildStar's biggest fans were unable to attend the convention, I thought it would be cool to reach out to them and other fans who were present to gather up some questions for the Gaffer, to truly make it more of a community interview rather than a standard press interview.

More About Warplots

At PAX East this past weekend, Carbine Studios unveiled more information about the much-anticipated PVP feature known as Warplots. Lead PVP Designer Jen Gordy took us through an overview of how the system would work and showed us some of the customization options available for the plots. She called it a teamcentric system, 40 on 40 PVP featuring fortresses that are prepared for battle whilst aloft and then plopped down hard onto the ground to duke it out with an opposing Warplot.

Housing Speculation – Too Many Questions to Jump on the Hype Train

So, the big news in the land of Star Wars: the Old Republic, is that we're finally getting housing to play with this summer with the release of Galactic Strongholds. It's a feature that players have been requesting since before launch. Let's face it, the most readily-viable games these days for housing are ones that have a free-to-play element, because a game studio can easily monetize unlocks on top of everyone having the option of using the shop for décor items or whatever.

Too Rigid and Longevity

As everyone probably knows by now, Story is the high altar upon which BioWare trades its wares. With Star Wars: the Old Republic, we got a rich set of interwoven class storylines and overall game storyline that pitted Republic versus Empire with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance. One of the critical challenges for any MMO is keeping things fresh for older players wanting to start a new alt. Replayability is the cornerstone to keeping the game's doors open.

SWTOR Atlanta Cantina Tour News

Last week, BioWare sent Star Wars: the Old Republic's Community Specialist Courtney Woods, Community Manager Eric Musco, Producer Andrew Horowitz, and Lead Engineer Johan Allanson to Atlanta with swag and drink tickets in hand for the latest Cantina Tour stop. The now-traditional flashdrive that was handed out contained a series of images from upcoming content, and as expected, there was a Q&A session with Courtney Woods moderating the party.

The Spring of SWTOR - Game Update 2.7

Over the course of the past week, BioWare laid out their roadmap for the changes coming with Star Wars: the Old Republic's Game Update 2.7. You can see how we're trundling along to SWTOR's 3.0. The use of sub-numbers (2.7.4, etc.) can ensure they can stretch out the revelation of SWTOR 3.0: the Undiscovered Expansion until sometime next year. However, I don't believe we're going to see that per Bruce Maclean's Producer's Roadmap.

Galactic Starfighter, 2014 Plans and Much More

MMORPG was invited by BioWare to a press event showcasing their upcoming full launch of Galactic Starfighter, the digital expansion for Star Wars: the Old Republic. The event included a livestream with developers presenting content and answering questions. The event was hosted by DebySue Wolfcale, Senior Director of Marketing, and featured Senior Producer Blaine Christine, Lead Designer Michael Backus, and Producer Jack Wood.

Jeff Hickman on Galactic Starfighter

MMORPG was given an exclusive phone interview with BioWare Austin's General Manager Jeff Hickman, along with Bruce himself, and Senior Marketing Director DebySue Wolfcale. We discussed the past year for Star Wars: the Old Republic, its present reality, and they teased us with some hints for the future of the game beyond the contents of Bruce's Producer's Letter.
