The first day of early access for Osiris: New Dawn has come and gone, and our Bill Murphy survived to tell the tale of his first official adventures on Proteus 2. As we wrote back in our PAX West preview, Osiris is a smaller-scale MMO where players are in the dozens per server, not hundreds (at least not yet). That said, Bill’s found that going solo or on a private multiplayer server is probably your best bet for now.
Hot on the heels of Wasteland 2 and its Director’a Cut, Brian Fargo and InXile Entertainment are happy to announce that Wasteland 3 is coming, and this time we are leaving the desert for the snow covered peaks of Colorado. We stole a few moments of Brian’s time to talk about the announcement, the game, and what to expect.
Group play is going to be one of the hallmarks of Elder Scrolls Online when One Tamriel goes live later this fall. Dungeons are key to that goal. We had the chance to speak to Rich Lambert about how dungeons fit into One Tamriel and much more.
Our own Bill Murphy will be checking out Kings and Heroes' latest updates tonight live on Twitch with Industry Games' Warren Weems. The game's added and polished a ton of features since Early Access launched, and we'll get the scoop directly from the devs tonight at 9pm ET, 6pm PT.
Rising Flames just may be a turning point for Guild Wars 2 in the post Heart of Thorns Tyria. There’s no mistaking that the expansion was divisive, despite being initially well-received by players, due to how content and its replayability ended up. In the months since launch, the way content in Maguuma is handled has been overhauled drastically, and the first episode of Season 3’s Living World was well-received for its new (but small map) and bombshells with the story.
Rift of the Damned, Riders of Icarus’ next big content update is set to drop on September 28th. Along with a whole new zone, new quests, a new dungeon, and new mounts it’ll also raise the level cap to 40, putting the NA version of the game one step closer to its Korean forebear. We’ve been dabbling with a level 40 Berserker on the test server and saw a lot of the new content in the process.
Next month, Adventure Quest 3D will drop on Steam, iOS, and Android as a truly cross-platform 3D MMORPG. You’ll be able to play at your desktop, move to your tablet, and take AQ3D with you on your phone anywhere you go. We recently chatted with the Artix Entertainment team, and Artix himself Adam Bohn, about the game and played their newly revealed dungeon: Shadowskull Tower.
This week's MMOFTW covers all the WoW news from the week, Osiris: New Dawn's launch date, Adventure Quest 3D's Open Beta, DAOC's 15 year celebration, and Chris Metzen's retirement from gaming and Blizzard.
I’ve been a 4X game fan almost as long as I’ve been a gamer. One of my fondest PC gaming memories is the many hours I spent with my brother clicking away and making decisions in Colonization from Sid Meier. I missed the boat on the original Master of Orion (MoO), but I played its sequels, and now years later and under a new developer, I’m very glad to have the chance to revisit the series thanks to the passion of Wargaming and NGD Studios.
Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is an upcoming ARPG from Kalypso media. Set in the era of the Vikings, both on Midgard and into the realms of Norse myth, Wolves of Midgard aims to compete with the likes of Diablo for the attention of PC and console gamers in early 2017. We went hands on with the game at PAX West. Did it enrapture Bill’s inner most desire to be a bearded Viking braving the cold and downing mead?
Right now, on Kickstarter, Dual Universe is about half-way towards its 500,000 Euros goal to “finish” a game that boasts the ability for every single person who plays to share a single universe with fully editable voxel worlds, player-made ships, and constructs. Novaquark’s game is nothing short of phenomenally ambitious, but we’ve heard that before.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one. Las Vegas area dentist makes millions with high quality amateur porn website, and then invests said millions fulfilling his dream of making his own sci-fi epic MMO. Oh, you’ve never heard it before? Well, that’s the story with Space Wars: Interstellar Empires. It’s the story of Robert Simyar, the fortune he made in the internet pornography boom, and how it’s funding the dream game of his own machinations.
Final Fantasy XV is distinctly a Final Fantasy game. From the opening music, to the referential systems and names, there’s no denying that you’re playing a Final Fantasy. That said, FFXV is quite possibly the largest departure from “The Norm” that the series has offered since FFXI brought the IP to the MMORPG many years ago. We played from the beginning for a solid two hours at PAX West, and now we’re left wanting November 29th to come that much sooner…
Gigantic, Motiga’s unique and promising, but long-gestating MOBA is on its way to launch via Perfect World later this year. It’s undergone a lot of changes and tweaks to make matches flow better and to help new players pick up the intricacies of the game faster. We went hands on with our favorite hero Knossos during PAX West 2016.
World of Warcraft just launched its latest expansion, Legion, but that didn’t stop Blizzard from securing a huge booth at Seattle’s PAX West and drawing in everyone with the promise of Illidan-themed Pinny Arcade pins. As the internet (and us too) is touting Legion as WoW’s best expansion since Wrath of the Lich King, we sat down with Blizzard’s Luis Barriga, Eric Maloof, and Cory Stockton to chat about the upcoming 7.1 patch, and the team’s, plans for content into 2017.
