Robin loves RPGs, MMOs, JRPGs, Action, and Adventure games... also puzzle games... and platformers... and exploration games... there are very few games she isn't interested in. When it comes to MMOs she focuses on WoW and GW2 but will pick-up other games as they catch her fancy. She's a habitual returner to FFXIV because that game is an all-around great MMO.
Welcome back as I recap the story of Guild Wars 2 thus far. Last time we left off having found the legendary city of Rata Novus and learned all of the Elder Dragons have a weakness. Which is good to know, but there was no indication of what Mordremoth’s weakness was at all. We also found a trail left by Rox and were hot on her and Rytlock’s heels.
With 8.3 on the PTR and the dev release of what we generally have to look forward to in the next major patch, we’re full swing into looking at what’s next. Join Robin as she breaks down the upcoming 8.3 from her time on the PTR.
Two weeks ago, Blizzard dropped the 8.2.5 patch, and with it came the end of the War Campaign we’ve been working on since Battle for Azeroth launched last year. However, almost everything went differently than I expected. Warning: there are spoilers are ahead.
Dauntless is a ton of fun and a great game to play alone or with friends. It occupies the realm of easy to pick-up, hard to master perfectly and offers a ridiculous amount of gameplay for free. There are seven different weapons which you can freely switch between, and all of them offer a unique playstyle and abilities to master. Dauntless is the perfect game to run around with your friends in or to play by yourself focusing on your goals.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed an odd and surprising issue arise for me. It’s one I certainly never thought I’d be experiencing, but it’s time to look the problem directly in the eyes. Earlier this week the prologue to Living Story Season 5, Bound by Blood, hit the servers and many players are taking their first steps in the newest chapter in the unfolding Guild Wars 2 story. While the possibilities of what is next flourishes, it’s also an excellent time to continue our look back at the story which we’ve experienced thus far.
Two weeks ago, Blizzard launched World of Warcraft Classic to the eagerly waiting hordes. With hours long queue times, tweaks to the original launch states of classes and more, players have a beautiful recreation of Vanilla WoW to explore. The result of mashing the old with the new in just the right way is a game which is both frustrating and fun to play.
We finally have the remastered Final Fantasy VIII fans have been waiting for. They gameplay is there exactly as it was previously and it’s a fun trip through a crazy timey-wimey story. But how does the remaster hold up decades later?
This past week Blizzard opened the doors on World of Warcraft Classic, and I took my first steps back into a world I haven’t seen since 2006. I purposefully spent very little time in the beta and stress tests to minimize fatigue and enable me to have a clear impression of it right from the beginning. Make no mistake; this is not a recreation of the game it was when it first launched back in November 2004, rather a recreation of what existed before Burning Crusade rolled out in 2006.
It’s time to continue taking a look back at the story ArenaNet has been telling for the last ten years in both books and Guild Wars 2 itself. In part 3 we covered the beginning of the Heart of Thorns storyline through to the end of ACT I. For this installment I’ll cover Act II of the HoT storyline.
It’s now less than 23 hours until World of Warcraft: Classic is live around the world for everyone who has a subscription, and I must admit I am a little bit excited. I’m not one of the people who has been clamoring for Blizzard to bring back the old game, but it will be fun to run around some of the old places again to do some of the questlines which were destroyed in Cataclysm. In these last few hours before launch, I want to take a look at the recent AMA Blizzard did regarding Classic. They answered a few questions which are essential for understanding the experience players will find when the servers open later today.
With the Eternal Palace having been out for weeks, the mythic race has finished, and 8.2.5 is out on the PTR, now seems like a good point to talk about the story points of 8.2. As such, if you aren’t caught up on your war campaign and don’t know how the raid ends, there will be spoilers. However, as with my usual mode, I won’t be discussing any story spoilers from 8.2.5 on the PTR, so you are safe on those.
When last we met, we had finished with the end of the Living Story Season 2. The Pact fleet had been destroyed, Caithe had once again absconded with the egg, and we had no idea where any of the members of Destiny’s Edge were, or if they were even alive. We were at least lucky because with the Heart of Thorns teaser we found out Rytlock would be returning, so that was a bit of relief.
We’ve now crossed into the “under a month until launch” threshold for Classic World of Warcraft, so what’s better to do while waiting, other than speculate on the effect it’ll have and look back at some of Beta?
