I've thought about writing this article for months. Since Thanksgiving and with Christmas just around the corner, I've been putting thought into the things that I've been thankful for.
Total War: WARHAMMER II - The Warlord and The Paunch brings new units and two more legendary lords, plus a new lord via FLC. The new addition adds the violent battle-thirst of the portly Grom the Paunch against the noble defender of Ulthuan, Eltharion the Grim. The Greenskin rework, additional mechanics, and campaign placement really add interesting challenges that spice up an aging Vortex campaign.
Getting started in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord can be a daunting task, but conquest doesn't need to be all doom and gloom. We've provided some guidance on giving your clan a solid start in ancient Calradia - make sure to check out our Getting Started guide below!
Stoneshard aims to fill a niche – open-world, survival rogue-like – and appears to be on the right track. Its most glaring deficit is the lack of content, but a prospective buyer should consider Stoneshard’s many extant and promised merits against its current missing content.
Total War: WARHAMMER II – The Shadow and The Blade adds a batch of new units and a couple of new legendary lords. It accompanies an FLC legendary lord and some revisions to the rules that ostensibly help the game move a little better. And, for a reasonable price, the new lords, accompanying start locations, and features bolster campaign difficulty and fun.
Age of Wonders: Planetfall – Revelations is a welcome addition to the franchise. Although seemingly inspired by the necromancer update in Age of Wonders III, Revelations takes adds new and interesting features that add much needed variety to each game.
Audio-Technica, long known for its high-quality audio equipment, is back with another premium gaming headset. The ATH-G1WL has potential for rich sound, both in recording and playback, with the convenience of wireless. Although designed with a great gaming experience in mind, whether or not it can stand out as a ‘must have’ is as yet unclear. Will it meet or – or even exceed – our expectations? Get the full scoop here in our ATH-G1WL review!
Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a remarkable take on the Sci-fi 4X genre. The visuals are beautiful, the interface and mechanics are superb, and there are plenty of opportunities for deep, strategic fun. Although the game is more evolutionary than revolutionary, it makes great use of the Age of Wonders III formula and isn’t shy about changing it up where it makes sense.
Steel Circus is shaping up to be a really fun sci-fi sports game. The gameplay was clean, straightforward, tense, and frankly, I did not want the demo to end. Moreover, the graphics are slick and the mechanics work. I can’t say how Steel Circus will fare once it’s released into onto the crowded MOBA market. I can say that if it’s as fun at release as it is now, it will be worth playing.
Unfrozen’s Iratus: Lord of the Dead is a bold, hard core, rogue-like dungeon delving game where you play the bad guy. The titular necromancer Iratus seeks to dominate the surface world with his ever-growing army of the dead, but he must escape from the dungeon in which he was interred. As his ranks swell, so too do the persistence and lethality of the living who oppose him. The game marches forward in its development much like Iratus’s dread legion, but in what state does the game find itself as it moves into early access? Find out below – this is your Iratus: Lord of the Dead preview!
A ruined city, a strong female lead, rogue-like elements, and a crafting system – what more can one ask for? Vambrace: Cold Soul, developed and published by Devespresso Games and Headup, respectively, has all of this and more in this new release. Side-scrolling, rogue-like games have generally been welcome, if hit-or-miss, but does Vambrace: Cold Soul swing for the fences or strike out?
