Is Final Fantasy 14’s Blacklist feature as powerful as they made it sound? At the Dawntrail Media Tour, we got the chance to find out.
As previously announced in April, Dawntrail will see a revamp of its social safety features, breaking it into three parts. The most anticipated one, Blacklist, removes a character’s chat messages and removes their character from view entirely. Meanwhile, Mute List removes their chat messages, as the old Blacklist did, and Filters will filter out chat messages with certain terms in them.
With the test at the Media tour done, what’s the verdict? Great news: It does exactly what’s advertised on the box.
I tested it a few times on certain characters (including the demonstration in the video below), and within seconds, the blacklisted character model vanished entirely. Further, their messages stopped showing up in the chat, which I verified in person. Neat.
Officially at the moment, if you want to “blacklist” a character, it only removes their chats from your window. The new Blacklist feature existed as one of the most recommended mods for FFXIV, but of course, not everyone wishes to mod, or they use a console where that’s not possible.
As explained in April, the new blacklisting won’t prevent you from being paired into duties with them, but their chat’ll be blocked out. We’ve also been told that this will be account-wide, but with the limited capabilities of the Media Tour build, we unfortunately didn’t get a chance to test this aspect.
If you want to see this feature in action, check out our hands-on video from the Dawntrail Media Tour, where we test out the Blacklist, Mute-list, and Filter features (with some dev-imposed footage restrictions).
