Travian is getting ready to celebrate its 14th anniversary and this year promises to be bigger than ever. For the past 5 years, developers have treated players to a specially created server with unique mechanics and ways to play an old favorite. This year, developers have even more to add than ever before, effectively re-inventing the game.
This year’s server is called Path to Pandora and promises to build on the last year’s massive Fire and Sand celebration. Let’s take a look at what 2017’s anniversary server contained:
- Ancient Europe map, sized 401x401, except for IR, SA, Arabia, COM and TR which will instead have a bigger map spanning 801x801
- 87 conquerable regions that produce victory points
- Troop forwarding and troop merging
- The server is won by having the highest number of victory points after 200 days
All of these features will be present in Path to Pandora but with exciting new additions! So what can players expect in 2018? Let’s take a look.
Players will be able to play 5 different tribes, including Egyptians and Huns, which were introduced during the annual special in 2017 and return this year due to popular demand. Tribes include Gauls, Teutons, Romans, Egyptians and Huns. The return of these new nations promises to add a completely new layer of complexity to the existing strategies and mechanics.
Most notably players will be treated to some new eye candy, including new art for buildings where “every tribe will have its own specific art for buildings”.
Developers want players to see all of the amazing work the art team has created. To do so, Path to Pandora will feature an alternate Conquering system: when a village is taken, the building aesthetics will not change even if the ownership does. For instance, if a Gaul conquers a Hun village, the buildings will visually remain Hun though the ownership of the village will move to the Gaul. Conquerors will also be able to train the special troops of the defeated village but the troops of different tribes cannot be merged. The hero will remain with the account tribe.
Path to Pandora will also contain a new way of forming Confederacies between Alliances. Two Alliances can join together to create a Confederacy. If they choose to invite a third Alliance, they can do so but the invitation has to come from both. Alliances will only be able to belong to a single Confederacy with a maximum of 4 members, so choose wisely!
Another big feature of Path to Pandora includes new ways to view your player statistics. A new “General” tab is being added that will provide “tons of information” to help manage a player’s account. This includes World progression, Resource rank, village strength rank and culture point rank but don’t think that’s all! Developers have promised that there is even more but they don’t want to spoil the surprise.
Last but not least, a number of balance changes will be implemented in Path to Pandora. You can look at the entire list of changes and comparison to Travian: Legends by visiting the official forum. You can also check out the Ask Travian Episode 9, dedicated to the Anniversary celebration.
