Tera has been around on the free-to-play MMORPG for PC’s for a few years and has garnered itself a large following of fans and players. Now, as the game readies to make it jump from PC exclusive to the F2P console market En Masse is ready to give players their first taste of what it’s like to play Tera on a console. We were able to snag some hands-on time with the upcoming port at PAX and check out how it feels to play Tera on its new home.

First of all, Tera is very much the same game it has always been with its reactive real time combat and the wide variety of races and classes to choose from. The only real changes to the game are in user interfaces that make navigating menus and inventory screens more console friendly.

What’s interesting though is how much combat feels like a cross between popular dungeon crawlers like the Dark Souls series with more traditional MMO features. Locking on targets, dodging their attacks, then countering with a strike of your own and maybe throwing in a more powerful attack with a cooldown felt like an easy enough task to accomplish with an XB1 or PS4 controller in hand and seemed to make perfect sense in such a setting.

Tera has already been a solid staple in the world of MMOs for some time now and its upcoming console release looks like it will be a firm testament to that when it comes to Xbox One and Playstation 4 later this year. We’ll be sure to give you our full impressions as we get more hands-on time with the upcoming console version.
