At Gen Con last month, Wizards Of The Coast announced a series of Secret Lair drops for Magic: The Gathering celebrating Dungeons & Dragons' 50th anniversary. Each drop sports a different theme, from cards focusing on fan favorites like Astarion and Karlach to a drop solely themed around adventuring.
Today, we can exclusively reveal all six cards from one of the D&D 50th Anniversary drops: Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Death Is In The Eyes of the Beholder I, one of two drops centered around the iconic floating eyeball that's ruined many a D&D adventurer's dreams.
The six cards in the Death Is In The Eyes of the Beholder I drop are as follows:
- Xanathar, Guild Kingpin (Legendary Creature - Beholder)
- 5 power/6 toughness
- Costs four generic, one black, and one blue mana to cast
- Ability: At the beginning of your upkeep, choose target opponent. Until end of turn, that player can’t cast spells, you may look at the top card of their library any time, you may play the top card of their library, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast spells this way.
- Bribery, renamed as Beholder's Charm Ray (Sorcery)
- Costs three generic and two blue mana to cast
- Search target opponent’s library for a creature card and put that card onto the battlefield under your control. Then that player shuffles.
- Stifle, renamed as Beholder's Sleep Ray (Instant)
- Costs one blue mana to cast
- Counter target activated or triggered ability.
- Delay, renamed as Beholder's Slowing Ray (Instant)
- Costs one generic and one blue mana to cast
- Counter target spell. If the spell is countered this way, exile it with three time counters on it instead of putting it into its owner’s graveyard. If it doesn’t have suspend, it gains suspend.
- Suspend: At the beginning of its owner’s upkeep, they remove a time counter. When the last is removed, they may play it without paying its mana cost. If it’s a creature, it has haste.
- Blood Money, renamed as Beholder's Petrification Ray (Sorcery)
- Costs five generic and two black mana to cast
- Destroy all creatures. For each nontoken creature destroyed this way, you create a tapped Treasure token.
- Drown In The Loch, renamed as Beholder's Fear Ray
- Costs one blue and one black mana to cast
- Choose one:
- Counter target spell with mana value less than or equal to the number of cards in its controller’s graveyard.
- Destroy target creature with mana value less than or equal to the number of cards in its controller’s graveyard.
