Koltrane's E3 For Everyone Diary (page 5)
Day 5 - May 14, 2004
The last day of Arena's "E3 for Everyone" Alpha test has arrived and it's bittersweet to say the least. There is
so much more I want to do and so many other places to try. I still didn't get to fight the Bone Dragon or see the
Gryphons that reportedly attacked the towns tonight. But there is so little time left and so many things to see.
I decided to revisit some areas I knew to get a good recap.
First I went to the Prisoners of War (Mission 3) in a futile attempt to complete the remaining missions. My
teams and I failed miserably. I never got past the part where I had to go open the draw bridge and in the
process fight 2 lev 19 warriors, 2 level 19 Shamen (who kept healing all the mobs and each other) and one level
25 boss. I stopped counting at seven failed attempts. Not that I'm complaining about the challenge, mind you,
but the game was shutting down shortly and I hated being stuck. Still, I had a great time with the other players
and even though I wasn't successful, I still enjoyed myself.
I went back to the town to look around a bit more. I wanted to try crafting, but didn't have enough materials
to complete any of the limited items available to create, so I decided to complete some of the solo quests I
had been given. Once I entered the solo area, I realized that THIS was the place to farm items. DUH! Had I
known that, I would've spent a little more time there gathering stuff. Now not all items drop there, but a
good number do.
My first visit to the solo area since day 1 made me realize how much I like the mixture of solo, cooperative,
and PVP areas. It seems there's something for everyone. My favorite place was the Tombs, but I enjoyed all
the places. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, but any player that finds Guild Wars appealing will
find a style of play to suit his taste. I ran my missions and returned to town for a final look around.
When I got to town, I was amused at what was going on. It was fire sale time! People were offering 50 gold
for a vial of black dye, 100 gold for a hammer haft, and even more absurd prices. The number of people
screaming WTB! and WTS! reminded me of the old EQ days at the EC tunnel, with everyone trying to outshout
each other. Players were thinning out, but the diehards were still around - those who will be running missions
and fighting inthe Arena and crafting hammers until 11:59pm Pacific.
Someone had a bright idea for us all together at the town fountain naked for a picture. I snapped a couple
of shots and decided to leave on a good note. I'm certain Arena will do something special for the last few
hardy players, but I don't think you can do better than a bunch of toons in their underwear.
Goodbye Guild Wars. It was a lot of fun.
